Bet our resident bee guru "catfish" can be spotted at this one …
Honey Extraction Workshop
June 27th, 9am
Landmark park
This workshop is open to the public and free with paid gate admission. Guests will have a chance to watch as honey from the hives at Landmark Park is extracted and uncapped by hand. Cappings from the honey extraction are used to make soap, lip balm and lotion. Nothing from the hive is wasted. Honey and other products will be on sale at the park on the day of the workshop. Urban Regional Extension Agent Philip Carter hopes the workshop will raise awareness of the importance of honeybees. Presented by the Wiregrass Beekeepers and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
Scoot from there on over to get an ice cream cone and watch Schmitz and Seagle in milk-off.
Old Fashion Ice Cream Social
June 27th, 5-8pm
Landmark Park
Dothan mayoral candidates Keith Seagle and Mike Schmitz, along with several other candidates for the Dothan City Commission, will compete for the title of “best milker” at Landmark Park’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social on June 27 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
The milking contest will begin at 6 p.m. Each contestant will take turns milking a Holstein cow, provided by Lewis Dairy. The politician who can milk the most in three minutes will win the contest.
The Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social is annual summertime family favorite, held in observation of National Dairy Month. Other entertainment will include music, butter churning, ice cream making, wagon rides, a cakewalk, old-fashioned games, an exhibit of antique dairy implements and more. A 32-foot Mobile Dairy Classroom, sponsored by the Alabama Dairy Farmers, will demonstrate the modern milking process with a fully operational milking parlor.
Park volunteers will be scooping FREE single dip cones of chocolate, vanilla, and butter pecan ice cream, plus homemade vanilla, handmade on an old fashioned wooden churn. Or, visitors can purchase a special treat in the Martin Drugstore. The Shelley General Store, next door to the Martin Drugstore, will also be open, selling old country items.
If watching kids smoke your best score won't give you an inferiority complex, then you need to check out the final stretch of the Press Thornton.
