TGIF!
Golf and festivals are the big dots on the calendar this weekend.
*** When you see the traffic getting heavy this afternoon, you'll know this is what’s up....
60th Annual Press Thornton Future Masters
June 20th-21st
7am-6pm
Dothan Country Club
www.futuremastersgolf.com.
A junior golf tournament for boys ages 8-18. Approximately 500 players and
their families come from all over the country to play in this prestigious
event.
*** I really dig the Future Masters because it gives me a chance to check out tomorrow’s golf stars. Seems like one of the kids from every Future Masters group goes on to a pro career at some point.
10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament
June 19th-20th
8am-3pm
McDaniel & Associates and Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity tee it up for the 10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on June 19th at Highland Oaks. There will be 4 hole-in-one opportunities, a hammer challenge, a Putt 4 Cash and tons more prizes and give-aways! What a great way to say Happy Father's Day while helping Habitat build more houses in the Wiregrass! For sponsorship information or to register a team call 79BUILD!
*** Men’s Health swears blueberries are the ultimate antioxidant bomb. Here’s where you can get some:
2nd Annual Wiregrass Blueberry Growers Association Festival
June 20th
9am-4pm
Headland City Square
A family oriented, free event focused on Local growers will have fresh
berries and berry products and blueberry plants available for purchase.
Events include a Pageant, baby crawl, pedal tractor pull, blueberry pie
eating contest, recipe contest and carriage rides. Extension Service agents
will advise on the requirements for commercial blueberry production for
interested potential growers and the public can learn about the
nutritional benefits of blueberry consumption.
*** Men’s Health also says tomatoes are good for the old male parts. There’s a festival going on for those too:
Slocomb Tomato Festival
June 20th
Slocomb
Music, entertainment, parade, gospel singing, receipe contest, Ms. Tomato Pageant and more.
*** I know, I know, sad description but that’s the best I could get. Having never been to the Tomato Festival I took it upon myself to call and ask what all went on at one. “Lotter stuff” the guy says. “Such as?” I say. “Just a lotter thangs” says he. Alrighty then good buddy. I reckon’ ya’ll can just surprise us when we get there.
**** Fandango jumped the gun on me last week with “The Proposal” . It apparently comes out this weekend along with Jack Black’s new flick, Year One.
The Proposal (view website)
When high-powered book editor Margaret (Sandra Bullock) faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she's actually engaged to her unsuspecting put-upon assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), who she's tormented for years. He agrees to participate in the charade, but with a few conditions of his own. The unlikely couple heads to Alaska to meet his quirky family (Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, Betty White) and the always-in-control city girl finds herself in one comedic fish-out-of-water situation after another. With an impromptu wedding in the works and an immigration official on their tails, Margaret and Andrew reluctantly vow to stick to the plan despite the precarious consequences.
Year One (view website)
When a couple of lazy hunter-gatherers (Jack Black and Michael Cera) are banished from their primitive village, they set off on an epic journey through the ancient world.
*** For you bad boys with hard bodies or others trying to come up with a creative way to have a heat stroke....
Sergeant Audie Murphy Triathlon

West Beach, Lake Tholocco, Fort Rucker
The Physical Fitness Center will be holding the Sergeant Audie Murphy

*** Take a kid fishing. It’s big stuff to a little dude.
Dale County Youth Fishing Rodeo Kids Fishing Day

Dale Medical Surgery Center Pond
Anglers should bring a rod & reel, bait, hat, sunglasses and an ice chest
For info call 774-0416 or 774-2335
*** Several things that were mentioned in last weeks blog (click here to view) are still going on. Among them; Animal Tales at Landmark Park, The Dothan Farmer’s Market, Saturday Mural Tours, and Featured Players production of "Jack and the Beanstalk"
And last but not least, don’t forget your Dad this weekend.
To my own Dad: Thanks for everything. I love you man.
See you out and about!

Thanks for all the info TeeTide. I read this every week and this week I wanted to thank you personally for the humorous report on the Tomato Festival in Slocomb--really cracked me up! Lookin' forward to some of those great Slocomb tomatoes and I definitely can't wait to find out abut all that "lotter stuff" that's in store! Thanks again!
